A man from Reichshof fell for a criminal trick on Monday (May 15) after his computer was locked. While the 74-year-old was sitting at the computer, a message suddenly appeared on the screen stating that the computer was locked. To unlock the computer, the Reichshofer should dial a phone number that is also displayed.

If such a message appears on your computer, you have caught a virus or so-called malware. You can use the number displayed to reach criminals who are just out for their money.

Scam with alleged PC support

However, the senior citizen did not know the scam and reached a friendly-sounding woman on the phone number who asked for access data for online banking and a TAN to solve the problem. In fact, the injured party was able to use his PC again shortly afterwards, which is rarely the case in such cases. However, when he checked his account balance, he discovered that the woman had withdrawn almost 1,000 euros from his account without asking.

Prevention

In most cases, you can protect yourself from such cyber crimes with good virus or malware protection programs. There are also many tips on the Internet on how to get a locked computer running again. Under no circumstances should you call the number provided - in an emergency, you have come to the right address with a computer specialist company.
