The claim

A sharepic is circulating on social media that says Pelé's feet should be kept by FIFA in its museum.

Our conclusion

The claim is false. Pelé will not be deprived of his feet after his death. They are not displayed in the FIFA Museum.

The death of Brazilian footballer Pelé in December 2022 brings with it rumors. One of them: FIFA is said to be planning to keep his feet in its museum. TNT Sports Brazil is cited as the source in a sharepic on Twitter

According to this sharepic, the family is said to have given their consent to FIFA's alleged plan.

The reactions show that such a project would not be well received at all. The question is also raised as to whether his feet will then be separated from his body, which is obviously not met with approval. Other users are wondering whether it would make more sense to take a cast of their feet instead.

Anyway, there is no truth to this rumor.

Pelé's feet are not on display

The claims have no basis whatsoever. The alleged source TNT Sports Brazil cannot be traced either. Media outlet Logial.ly reports that TNT Sports neither shared an article with the claim on its website nor posted such a claim on any of its social media channels.

There is no such report to be found on FIFA's official website either. Here you can find an obituary for Pelé , which also contains no reference to such a project.

Reuters sought feedback from FIFA. A spokesman told Reuters that this claim was not true.

Origin of the hoax

On the sharepic you can see a watermark that shows the text “Sarcasm Football Nepal” next to a Twitter and Facebook icon. The post was published on this same page on December 30, 2022, but has since been removed.

As the name of the site suggests, it publishes content that should not necessarily be taken seriously. You can also read “Working 24/7 to find Sarcasm in Football and posting since 2015” on their Facebook page. – Sarcastic football-related posts have been posted here around the clock since 2015.

Conclusion

MIMIKAMA

No worries. Pelé will not be deprived of his feet after his death. They are not displayed in the FIFA Museum. The photo actually shows Pelé's feet. It was taken by star photographer Annie Leibovitz in 1981.
