On Friday, December 2nd, unknown perpetrators apparently managed to phish personal bank details using fake websites and subsequently stole almost 160,000 euros from the fraudster's bank accounts.
Made several transfers
The 68-year-old account holder apparently tried to make a transfer using online banking. This probably led him to a phishing site where the login details for his bank account were phished. The victim noticed irregularities as soon as he entered his access data.
The suspected fraudsters also called the person concerned and got him to block his online access so that he would not have access to his account transactions. On Saturday, the 68-year-old became suspicious and checked his account transactions. He discovered that the perpetrators had already made several transfers.
The Karlsruhe criminal police have taken over the investigation.
In this context, the police advise:
- Check the browser address.
- Only enter your PIN and TAN if a secure connection has been established with the browser.
- Credit institutions generally do not request confidential data via email or telephone.
- If there are any irregularities, cancel the transaction immediately.
