When looking for pest controllers, you often come across dubious providers. After the work is supposedly done, these demand a multiple of the agreed sum and can no longer be found afterwards.

The Brandenburg Consumer Center (VZB) gives tips on how to protect yourself from the usual rip-off scams.

Numerous pest controllers online promise quick and affordable help. But many of them are dubious providers. Once on site they suddenly charge absurd prices and can no longer be found later. They rarely achieve lasting success and, in the worst case, they even cause damage to the building.

Choose local providers and set a price range

“When looking for professional help online, we recommend looking for an imprint with a local address,” says Annalena Marx, press spokeswoman for the VZB. When first contacting a company, she recommends getting a price range.

If the person on site demands amounts that go far beyond this, he advises that, if in doubt, only pay the agreed amount initially and clarify everything else later. “Anyone who feels threatened should call the police,” said Marx.

A good first point of contact is the relevant nature conservation authority . Because relocating or killing wild animals is fundamentally prohibited. The employees there can best assess what options are available in individual cases.
