Criminals use the run-up to Christmas to send fake invoices via gift cards.

There are currently various types of emails circulating, but they all have one thing in common:
you supposedly ordered a gift card from Amazon, and the invoice for it (always between 50 and 75 euros) was attached to the email as a PDF.

This is what the emails look like:

What the emails always have in common is the subject, which always mentions the gift card, and the note at the end that you can cancel the purchase via a link in the attached PDF document.
In addition, “undisclosed recipients” are always named as recipients, i.e. a whole group of recipients, which should make you suspicious of an alleged individual invoice for an order!

Our absolute favorite of these emails is the one that shows that the information in the emails appears to have been randomly thrown together:

I'm sorry, what?
I'm sorry, what?

The fatal PDF

When we try to open the PDF, Kaspersky warns us about a Trojan hidden in the PDF:

Kaspersky warns of a Trojan in PDF

Without online protection we see a document like this:

The fake invoice for the gift card
The fake invoice for the gift card

There are several links in the PDF, but they all lead to the same page... and this page is not Amazon :

The gift card link does not go to Amazon

Fake site

If you click on one of the links in the PDF, you will be taken to a fake Amazon login page. If you enter your data there, the criminals have full access to the Amazon account and can place orders and debit the account to their heart's content!

If you have entered your data on such a page, it is advisable to contact Amazon immediately, change your password if possible and, if necessary, also inform the bank and/or credit card company!
