Numerous users are currently receiving dangerous phishing emails with which criminals are trying to gain access to GMX accounts.

GMX users must therefore be careful if they are suddenly asked to log in due to an alleged account blocking. The data and email accounts end up in the hands of criminals and can be used for crimes under someone else's identity!

You may find a message in your inbox that appears to come from GMX informing you that your email account has been blocked. The email from the sender “Update Account” reads as follows:

Your email is blocked

Dear GMX users

Your incoming emails have been saved to pending statues due to the recent upgrade to our database. Click below to migrate.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Best regards

What happens if you follow the link?

Clicking on “ Click here to verify your identity ” will take you to a fake GMX login page where you will be asked to enter your login details:

By entering your details on this site, you are allowing criminals to access your email account. This means, for example, that dangerous emails can be distributed in your name or that all messages in your inbox can be read. The senders of the message thus gain access to extremely sensitive data.

How do you recognize such phishing messages?

  • Email address: Phishing emails are sent from an implausible address that does not correspond to the official company email address. Click 'Reply' to see who the message is actually sent to or from.
  • Spelling: Phishing emails are usually full of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Impersonal salutation: You will not be addressed by name as this email is sent en masse.
  • Content: Question the reason for the letter and first of all check in the usual way whether your account has actually been blocked.
  • Request to reveal personal data: Banks, streaming platforms, online shops and the like do not ask you to reveal your data or passwords!
  • the web addresses of the target pages: The websites for data entry are fake. The best way to recognize this is by the web address, which does not match that of the real websites.
