The most notable increase in exploitation of well-known technology companies was Microsoft, which accounted for 13 percent of all phishing attempts worldwide, more than double the number in the previous quarter. LinkedIn tops the list with 45 percent of phishing attempts. Every second phishing email imitates Microsoft brands, since Microsoft is the owner of LinkedIn. CPR suspects cybercriminals continue to see remote work as an attractive trend to capitalize on, with LinkedIn and Microsoft accounting for 58 percent of brand phishing attacks worldwide.

The increasing use of Microsoft-related scams poses a threat to individuals and businesses. Once someone gets hold of your account credentials, they have access to all the applications behind it, such as Teams and SharePoint, as well as the obvious risk of tampering with your Outlook account. endangering your email account.
