Although phishing attacks are primarily aimed at stealing access data, bank fraud remains a major threat to private individuals and companies. The motive behind every cyber attack is to monetize the attack as quickly as possible. And one of the quickest ways is to simply get the victim's bank details.

According to new data from cybersecurity provider Fortra, the financial services sector was the most frequently victimized by cyberattacks in the fourth quarter of 2022, accounting for 55 percent of all business areas attacked. With an increase of just three percent from the previous quarter, the financial sector continues to provide threat actors with an easy way to trick victims into providing direct access to their money, credit cards, lines of credit and more.

In Germany, savings bank customers are particularly targeted

For example, phishing emails put pressure on victims with subjects such as “Please process immediately”; The email states that there is activity on unknown devices.
