A crying voice on the phone... then there is talk of a traffic accident in which someone was killed. This horror scenario leaves most people who receive such a call unmoved.
Is that real?
Could this be my child? Is he alright? The thoughts start to circle and at that moment a serious-sounding voice answers the phone and often pretends to be a police officer. The manipulation and the horror scenario continue to be spun. The alleged officer speaks of pre-trial detention and a bail that would have to be paid. These often involve large sums in the five to six-figure range.
Several people received similar calls yesterday in Bergneustadt, Wiehl and Gummersbach. Luckily, you didn't fall for the scammers. Nevertheless, it often happens that people believe the callers and sometimes hand over all their savings to them.
Important tips
That's why the police never tire of warning people about these tricks. Talk to your family, friends and acquaintances about this perfidious scam. The best protection against these scammers is to know their tricks. If you are not sure whether it could be a real call, then contact your relatives using the phone numbers you know.
