Many people want simple solutions to frightening circumstances. And some people mistakenly believe that they have found them.
The most important thing about disinfectants against the new coronavirus:
- Many disinfectants say they help against “Human Coronavirus”
- However, coronaviruses are a whole family of viruses, not just the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV
- The products are intended for cleaning surfaces, not for consumption
There are currently tips going around on social media to stock up on certain disinfectants because, according to the instructions on the back of the packaging, they help against “human coronavirus”.

A new, small conspiracy theory is even being built here: The new coronavirus is not new at all, as the reference can also be found on older packages. But the government is acting as if there were no means yet:

Disinfectants from the “Dettol” brand in particular seem to be coming into focus, and sales with corresponding information can now also be found on the Facebook marketplace:

In German, the yellowed text says: “Offers protection against the coming coronavirus.”
In the comments you can read about tips that you should dilute the products and drink them or let them evaporate like an essential oil.

Why does it say this on disinfectant packaging?
But “Dettol” is not the only product that has this information; the information can also be found on disinfectant wipes in this country:

And disinfectant wipes are useful against this: among other things, against conora viruses of all kinds!
However, not by eating, drinking or inhaling them, but by wiping surfaces with them that could contain viruses!
In addition to 2019-nCoV (Wuhan virus), well-known representatives of the coronaviruses also include SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV . In order not to list every known and lesser-known coronavirus individually, they wisely decided to simply write the “family name” on the packaging.
Media panic
Unfortunately, the term “coronavirus” for 2019-nCoV has now become engrained in many people’s minds instead of immediately giving it a clear and simple name. Unfortunately, this leads to many people equating the concept of family with the new virus.

Conclusion
We ourselves make sure to always write about the “new coronavirus”, Wuhan virus or 2019-nCoV so as not to further encourage name confusion.
That's why we would like to ask you to also pay attention to this: Be calm mimikamaesque! Correct your friends and fellow human beings when they talk the Fight with us against the generalized name, use the above terms for it.
So that even the most fearful people don't fall for strange conspiracy theories that there is already a "patent on the coronavirus " or that the virus has long been known and there are vaccinations that are kept secret.
