A dog owner from Altlengbach reported in the evening hours of April 19, 2022 that his dog, a 9-year-old border collie mix, had escaped. He jumped over the fence and ran away. The search for him was initially negative.

During the midday hours of April 21, 2022, the dog owner was in his garden, which also has a well shaft. The shaft was covered with a concrete well shaft. He lifted down the concrete cover of the shaft and was able to see a dead dog's body in a shaft about seven meters deep. He called the fire department and the police.

The Altlengbach fire department recovered the dead dog from the well shaft.

The fountain is located on the owner's own property.
The property is not cordoned off. The dog's front legs, hind legs and muzzle were tied together with packing string and adhesive tape.

In addition, it is announced that a significant amount of money will be offered for relevant information that leads to the identification of the previously unknown perpetrator(s).

The amount of money awarded cannot currently be quantified because people are constantly reporting to the police or animal welfare organizations and offering to help.

The Lower Austria State Police Department would like to thank the public and animal protection organizations for their voluntary commitment and support! The investigations by the Altlengbach police station are in full swing. Traces that were secured on site are currently being forensically examined and evaluated.

Any relevant information about this animal cruelty should be sent to the Altlengbach police station on Tel. 059 133 3161 requested.

The owner posted a picture with his deceased dog on April 21, 2022.

Update: PFOTENHILFE donor offers a $5,000 reward for a dog murdered in cold blood

Since it became known on Thursday afternoon that a tied-up dog was thrown into a well shaft in Altlengbach (Lower Austria), emotions have been running high among supporters of the animal protection organization PFOTENHILFE. Some even have thoughts of lynching.

“Fortunately, the death penalty has long been abolished in Austria,” said PFOTENHILFE boss Johanna Stadler. “And revenge won’t get us anywhere either. That's why we're happy about the animal lover who contacted us last night and provided 5,000 euros for the crucial information that led to the conviction of the perpetrator."

He wanted to wake up the far too lax law enforcement authorities. Stadler agrees with him and is very grateful for this great and hopefully effective support: “In Austria, unfortunately, you can afford a lot when it comes to animal suffering. This is still treated as a minor crime, even though intentional homicide carries a two-year prison sentence. Who should that deter if the perpetrators still only receive small fines or a maximum of three months? And then everyone is surprised and dismayed when such a perpetrator attacks people next. As if such cold-blooded, brutal animal murder wasn’t bad enough!”
