Case 1: A company from the local region was abused for an act.

The company's invoices were intercepted by unknown perpetrators and the IBAN numbers contained therein were forged. In this way, the perpetrators attempted to generate fraudulent payment into an account of their choice. The attempt was recognized and uncovered by an attentive customer. The Bitburg police would like to raise awareness because it cannot be ruled out that other companies could also be affected by this fraud.

Case 2: In another case, the complainant was called by an unknown number.

On the other end of the line, someone identified themselves as a police officer. She was told that the caller's son was seriously injured and demanded money. Since the person who made the complaint recognized the fraud, fortunately no damage was caused. The Bitburg police would like to point out again that the police do not make any calls or demand payments. In the case of such calls, the conversations should be ended immediately.

Case 3: Another injured party was cheated out of a five-figure amount.

He was informed by telephone that he had won a larger sum in a competition. In order to receive this payment, he has to pay in advance for certain services and send a larger amount using GooglePlay cards. The Bitburg police would also like to raise awareness of this scam. Winnings are not linked to any advance payment.

In all cases, the police point out that the fraudster's scam can vary in each individual case. As a rule, however, the facts are always similar. If you suspect anything, contact family members or the police.
