Together with the city of Cologne and the city of Leverkusen, the police are warning against false doctors who are particularly exploiting older people's concerns about infection with the corona virus.
Police warn against fake doctors – virus tests are never carried out unannounced – The most important thing to start with:
Be careful with people who want to carry out virus tests directly at their front door. The health department never carries out these without prior notice, and employees also identify themselves with an ID card.
Tests are never carried out unannounced
Perpetrators attempted to use a perfidious scam to get into the apartment of an elderly woman (82) in Cologne-Mülheim this morning (March 17th). The Cologne police have started investigating the case.
The city of Cologne emphasizes that the health department has virus tests carried out at the front door, but does not send employees out without prior registration. Employees always show their ID.
In Leverkusen, virus tests are also carried out in apartments in individual cases following a doctor's order and prior appointment. In these cases, the employees of the German Red Cross or the Maltese Relief Service identify themselves with an ID card.

First contact your family doctor by phone
Citizens who are concerned that they may be infected with the novel coronavirus should contact their family doctor by telephone. She/he will then decide whether a laboratory test for infection with the corona virus is necessary.
If the family doctor cannot be reached, the statutory health insurance emergency service is available around the clock on 116 117.
Police are investigating
According to initial investigations, the 82-year-old's apartment door rang on Kieler Strasse around 11:10 a.m. When she opened it, a man and a woman were standing at the door.
“They were dressed like doctors and said that they had to carry out a corona test on me,” the pensioner explained to the police officers who were called. “I asked these people to keep their distance. When my visitor (62) came to the door, they ran out of the house,” the complainant added.
The lady reacted with presence of mind and completely correctly.
