Raids in Berlin
From the morning hours onwards, police state security forces at the State Criminal Police Office, in close coordination with the Berlin public prosecutor's office, executed previously obtained search warrants at eight private addresses in Rosenthal, Alt-Hohenschönhausen, Marzahn, Hellersdorf, Neukölln, Gesundbrunnen, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedenau. This involves securing various pieces of evidence – including internet-enabled devices such as computers and mobile phones.
The investigation is based on the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations, incitement to hatred, public incitement to commit crimes, insults directed at public figures, slander and slander, disturbing the public peace through threats of criminal offenses and insults.
The seven suspected men aged 20 to 65 and a 42-year-old woman are said to have committed the crimes between June 2020 and November 2021 by publishing illegal content in chat groups and social networks.
In addition, officers from the State Criminal Police Office visited two men aged 76 and 77 at their home addresses in Charlottenburg and Wannsee as part of so-called danger speeches. The two are suspected of uploading offensive comments on social networks. Further investigations, in particular the evaluation of the confiscated devices, are ongoing.
12 crimes in Saxony
The Saxony police also announced this action on Twitter. There are 12 crimes that are now being investigated.
All of these crimes are related to the 2021 federal election. The allegations are slander or slander against political figures.
“Officers and elected officials in particular are often victims of hatred and agitation online. All cases of legal violations must be consistently pursued and punished, regardless of where they are carried out and what apparent reasons are given. Anyone who thinks that they can put themselves above the law on the Internet and shout their hateful tirades to the world is wrong.”
Sonja Penzel, President of the Saxony State Criminal Police Office
14 suspects in Rhineland-Palatinate
During searches in Rhineland-Palatinate, LKA investigators found eight laptops, seven cell phones, numerous data carriers, weapons, ammunition and other items that are prohibited under the Weapons Act.
The searches were preceded by an evaluation of more than 600 statements on the Internet. Here it was examined to what extent these contained criminal content. Specifically, this was about comments or postings on social networks that were related to last year's federal election and included, among other things, insults against politicians. These include false quotes and false reports that defame or discredit those affected.
In the case of two suspects, it is said to be about a manipulated wanted poster that was uploaded to Facebook. Former Chancellor Angela Merkel, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder and Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock were pictured on it. They were labeled enemies of the state and terrorists and accused of numerous crimes. Several laptops were seized during the search.
All evidence is now being evaluated.
