The claim

There were several posters in Düsseldorf with an alleged quote from Christian Lindner: “ No money for public transport? They should drive a Porsche.”

Our conclusion

The posters were crowdfunded and hung by an action group, the quote is not real. The state security agency is now investigating the authors.

As is well known, FDP politician Christian Linder is against continuing the popular 9 euro ticket in Germany. It is a “free mentality” and “not fair”; in an interview he even suggests that “ many left-wing groups, Antifa for example ” are campaigning for the continuation. In addition, it is constantly discussed how strong Lindner's connections to Porsche actually are and how the company influences politics - which probably ultimately led to the poster with the wrong quote.

The poster with the wrong quote

Several photos of the poster exist, and the images have not been manipulated. Here's an example:

Visually, the poster is designed as if it actually came from the FDP. The poster says: “ #9EuroTicket – No money for public transport? They should drive a Porsche .”

The little note on the poster

However, there is also a small hint on the poster about the true origin of the poster. Let's zoom in a little closer:

Zoomed in on the clue
Zoomed in on the clue

Okay, the AI wasn't necessarily optimal when it came to magnification, but with a little guesswork we came up with a sensible account name: “annoys everyone”. And in fact, a kind of “preliminary version” of the poster was published on Twitter on August 11th by an account called @nervtjeden (see HERE ):

The account called “Dies Irae” also makes it clear in their profile that they create “adbusting” and “manipulated advertising.” On August 13th, a request to support the printing of the poster financially; on August 16th, the first posters were printed that can also be seen in the current photo.

State security is investigating the authors

WDR , Spiegel , KSTA and RND among others , the posters were hanging in several large advertising boxes in Düsseldorf, but have now been confiscated by the police. According to a police spokesman, the state security agency has taken over the investigation.
