We and our cooperation partner, Watchlist-Internet, repeatedly report on this scam, in which criminals randomly send messages and claim that a POST package cannot be delivered. Anyone who is actually waiting for a package can easily fall into this trap. Most criminals want to get your credit card details or your money. But this time there is also an attempt to hijack your postal account.

What do the criminals claim?

Two emails in the name of the post office are currently in circulation. Both variants claim that a package cannot be delivered:

From: Post.at

This is what happens when you click!

The first email works as usual: If you click on the link in the email, you will be redirected to a mock post page. There you will be asked to pay 1.34 euros so that the package can be delivered. To do this you must enter your credit card details. But be careful! In the end, you not only pay 1.34 euros, but a significantly higher amount to criminals!

We assume that you will also be asked to pay a small amount in the second email. But anyone who follows the link in the email will first be redirected to a mock login website from the post office. The criminals try to steal your access data in order to get to your postal account.

If criminals have access to your post office account, they can use all post office services there and carry out other crimes in your name. This includes forwarding letters or packages or activating your cell phone signature, which is considered your digital ID!

Have you entered your credit card details and paid?

If you have already paid, you should contact your credit card company and explain your situation. Have your credit card blocked. It may also be that you have unintentionally fallen into a subscription trap . In this case, you can request a refund from your credit card company for money that has already been debited!

Have you entered your password?

If the criminals have stolen your password, you should log in to your usual postal website (post.at) and change your password. If you can no longer log in, contact the post office and explain your situation. Demand that your account be deactivated immediately!

How to spot fraudulent messages!

  • Pay attention to grammar and spelling. Messages from criminals are often full of errors.
  • Check the sender address. At first glance, both emails look as if they came from the post office. A closer look shows that the email addresses info@stlb.at and added1@info.es have nothing to do with the post office!
  • Pay attention to the salutation. “Hello customer” or “Dear customer” are impersonal greetings and indicate that the message is being sent randomly to numerous people and that criminals are behind it.
