Russia's attack on Ukraine, which violated international law, has also led to a war on the Internet, which more and more German digital companies are fearing. According to a new survey by the Berlin digital association BITKOM among 100 companies in the industry, two thirds (67 percent) expect the threat situation in cyber space to worsen. Another 17 percent already see concrete signs of this. One in three companies ramped up their IT protection measures at short notice.

“Definitely take risks seriously!”

“All companies should definitely check their protection against cyber attacks and strengthen them where necessary.
It is no secret that Russia and government-affiliated groups have such capabilities.
Given the dynamic developments surrounding the war against Ukraine, companies should definitely take the risks seriously and strengthen their own cyber resilience.”

Bitkom President Achim Berg

According to the industry representative, the ongoing dangers posed by cyber criminals from all over the world should not be underestimated.

“Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, criminal free riders will try to take advantage of the opportunity and, for example, offer themselves as supposed helpers in times of need.”

IT security measures tightened

So far, one in three companies in the digital sector have tightened their IT security measures due to the war, and another seven percent have firmly planned to do so. Three out of ten companies are still discussing it - and almost one in four (23 percent) see no need for additional IT security, according to the survey. In response to the war in Ukraine, one in three companies set up a crisis team or created clear responsibilities within the company.
