More and more people need care
According to a forecast by the Federal Statistical Office, the number of people in need of care in Germany will rise to around 4.53 million nationwide by 2060, thereby increasing by around a third. The care rate in the over 75 age group is 11 percent and rises to around 71 percent for those over 90. It is extremely important to deal with the issue of care early on, otherwise the need for care can become an extreme burden not only physically and emotionally, but also financially.
Statutory nursing care insurance does not cover all costs
Anyone who believes that they have made enough provisions because they will later receive benefits from the statutory nursing care insurance is mistaken, because in the event of nursing care - staggered according to the so-called level of care - it only covers part of the costs. Care in a home also costs only slightly more than professional care at home. The costs for both variants significantly exceed the statutory amount - so you have to expect a hefty personal contribution.
The need for care is not always recognized
More than three million Germans have now taken out additional nursing care insurance so that they are not solely dependent on the statutory nursing care insurance funds when they need care. But even if statutory long-term care insurance pays for those in need of care, additional private insurers still do not always recognize the need for care. The conditions of private supplementary nursing care insurance often do not correspond to the statutory compulsory insurance.
Supplementary care insurance is difficult to understand for laypeople
The criteria are often only briefly listed in the insurance contract. If none of these conditions are met, the insurance will not pay anything, even if the need for care has long been proven for statutory nursing insurance. This is hardly comprehensible for laypeople.
Consumer advice centers are putting pressure on insurance companies
When taking out insurance, the insurer must point out and provide information about different conditions. If this does not happen, those affected still have a realistic chance of proving their need for care and receiving insurance benefits. It can definitely make sense to contact the consumer advice center to clarify your individual case and at the same time increase the pressure on the entire industry and the control bodies.
