On Wednesday (August 24, 2022), a 62-year-old received a call from an unknown person at around 9:30 a.m. The caller promised the injured party a profit of 38,500 euros. In order to pay out the amount, the 62-year-old had to buy Google Play cards worth 1,000 euros. The cards would then be picked up when the money was handed over. The injured party noticed the fraud and contacted the police. The police has started investigation.

Follow the tips from your police to protect yourself from telephone fraud:

  • Put down the phone! That's not rude.
  • The police will never call you on the police emergency number 110.
  • Never hand over money or valuables to strangers!
  • The police will never ask you to hand over money or valuables.
  • Be suspicious if someone answers the phone with the words “Guess who’s speaking!” or similar phrases without introducing themselves by name.
  • Do not use the dial back button!
    If you have any questions about the police, enter the telephone number of the local office yourself using the buttons.
  • Report it if you have become a victim!
  • In an emergency, dial 110, emergency call police!
