Online fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated. It is therefore extremely important to remain vigilant and protect yourself from their underhanded tactics.
Recently, there has been an increasing number of cases in which fraudsters impersonate Facebook and Meta in order to lure unsuspecting users into their traps. Find out here how this scam works and how you can protect yourself from it.
The new scam: disguise as Facebook and Meta
Scammers have developed a new method to deceive and confuse users. They create pages with names like “Do it Fast” or “Avoid Risks” followed by a long string of numbers. These sites publish misleading status reports and tag countless private profiles and Facebook pages.

The fake message: Beware of suspicious activity
The scam begins with text claiming that suspicious activity has been detected on the user's account. The scammers claim that the account will be temporarily blocked and ask the user to confirm their identity in order to restore access to the ads. A link leads to a fake Facebook page where the user's identity is supposed to be confirmed.
The dangerous trap: fake Facebook login window
Once victims click on the link, they end up on a fake Facebook page. A fake Facebook login window awaits you there. If unsuspecting users enter their access data, they play it directly into the hands of the fraudsters. These can now not only access the user's private profile, but also take over the Facebook groups and pages linked to it.

How you can protect yourself: tips for prevention
- Check the source: Always carefully check the sender of messages, links and notifications. Official messages from Facebook or Meta usually do not contain long strings of numbers in the name. These are also not published as a posting in which numerous users or their pages are tagged.
- Avoid suspicious links: Never click on suspicious links. Do not enter personal information on dubious websites.
- Direct Access: Always use official apps or the official website to access your accounts. Only enter your login details there.
- Two-factor authentication: Enable two-factor authentication to further secure your account.
Conclusion: Vigilance is key
The scam used by scammers impersonating Facebook and Meta shows how important it is to be careful and protect yourself from possible dangers on the Internet. You can make your personal information and accounts more secure by following the tips above and becoming aware of fraud methods. Stay alert. Don't let scammers take advantage of your carelessness.
