“BREAKING NEWS New Drug in Schools…Please spread the word even if you don’t have kids in school. Parents should know about this drug. This is a new drug known as “Strawberry Fast.”

This is how a status post begins that is currently making the rounds on Facebook and WhatsApp. Although we report about it again and again, we continue to receive inquiries from concerned Internet users!

First of all: There is no drug called “Strawberry Fast”

The name “Strawberry Fast” is a translation error, because the actual message came from Brazil and was simply chased through the Google Translator!

This message was sent repeatedly via WhatsApp in Brazil until it was finally translated and is now circulating in German-speaking countries.

The content as wording:

“Nova drug nas escolas… Por favor, passe isto, mesmo que não tenha filhos na escola. Os pais deviam saber sobre esta druga. This is a new drug conhecida like “Strawberry Quick”. This is a tipo de metanfetamina de cristal que se parece com as balas pop de morango (os doces que evaporam e 'Pop' na sua boca). Também cheira a morango e está a ser entregue às crianças nas escolas. Chamam-lhes metanfetamina ou morango rápido. As children are younger, they have to do so and are taken to the hospital in the graveyard. This includes chocolate, manteiga de amendoim, cola, cereja, etc. and laranja. For favor, instrua seus filhos para não aceitarem doces de estranhos e mesmo de um amiigo (que pode ter sido dado e acreditado que é doce) e dar ciência a um professor, director, etc. Immediatamente. Passa este e-mail para o maior número de pessoas (mesmo que não Tenham filhos) para que possamos aumentar a consciência e, esperemos, evitar que ocorram futuras tragédias..!!”

The report making the rounds in German-speaking countries is:

“BREAKING NEWS New Drug in Schools…Please spread the word even if you don’t have kids in school. Parents should know about this drug. This is a new drug known as “Strawberry Fast”. There is a very scary thing happening in schools right now that we all need to be aware of. There's a type of crystal method going around that looks like strawberry pop stones (the candy that sizzles and "pops" into your mouth). It also smells like strawberries and is given to children in school playgrounds. They call it strawberry meth or strawberry quick. Children take this thinking that it is candy and are taken to the hospital in terrible condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange. Please do not instruct your children to accept candy from strangers and even not accept candy that looks like it is from a friend (who may have given it and believed it is Candy) and take everything they have to a teacher, principal, etc. immediately. Send this email to as many people as possible (even if they don't have children) so we can raise awareness and hopefully prevent tragedies..!! Please share with MaXimum Awareness how it is really helpful”

Among other things, the website 24brasil.com explained that it was a fake, and we also had a similar case that we uncovered back then .

It all started in the USA in 2007

The content has been in circulation since at least 2007 and represents an accumulation of half-truths. The sender at the time was supposedly “Memorial Physican Services”, but they then published a statement confirming that this letter was a fake and did not come from you:

So why is it an urban legend?

Well, to date there have been no confirmed cases of a child ever receiving such ecstasy pills as a gift and consuming them. It's right to warn about this, but it also creates panic among worried parents and people who don't have children of their own. The value of these pills shown is said to be around $350. So purely from a logical point of view:

What dealer would give away $350 worth of ecstasy to children only for them to die of an overdose?

Enlightenment: YES! Scaremongering: NO!
