A recent ruling shows that fake quotes are not just considered “satire”.
The right-wing radical blogger Sven Liebich has to pay 10,000 euros in damages to Renate Künast
The reason is a quote from Künast from 1986, which Liebich added and distorted on his blog “Halle-Leaks”.
According to Künast's lawyer, further lawsuits are being sought against authors of hate posts.
Sven Liebich's blog “Halle-Leaks” is known for one thing in particular: false claims and distorted quotes. To do this, quotes or individual keywords are taken from actual media publications and, with the help of a manipulative interpretation, they are put into a radicalized state.
However, this can also be expensive if the people affected defend themselves against it, as the current ruling shows.

The specific case
As described above, Sven Liebich likes to take real quotes and tear them out of context, reinterpret them and then present this as fact. This also happened with a quote from Renate Künast from 1986, which was due to the lack of a time statement and additions from Liebich seems current and creates a distorted image of the Green politician.
Specifically, it's about a sharepic on "Halle-Leaks" with the picture of Renate Künast and the quote: " Coma, if there's no violence involved, sex with children is okay." It's good now. “
As the “ Berliner Morgenpost ” reports, Liebich was referring to a debate in the Berlin House of Representatives in May 1986, in which a Green party colleague spoke on the subject of “domestic violence”. When asked by a CDU MP how she felt about the North Rhine-Westphalian Greens' decision to decriminalize sexual intercourse with children, according to the minutes, Künast is said to have interjected : " Comma, if there is no violence involved." “
As Renate Künast said, it was a misinterpretation of the quote, because with the flippant interjection she was referring to the actual topic, namely domestic violence, not to sex with children; She wanted to make the CDU MP's accusation come to nothing because it was not part of the actual topic of the debate, as she explained in 2015 according to " Welt ".
Judgments for agitators and disseminators
That article in “ Welt ” from 2015, in which Renate Künast commented on the allegations in more detail, was probably the template for the specially added quote on “Halle-Leaks”, which basically says the opposite of what is said in explained in the “Welt” article, quite apart from the fact that the original quote comes from 1986.
The judges at the Frankfurt am Main regional court followed Künast's argument about the circumstances of the original quote described above and sentenced Liebich to pay 10,000 euros in damages, cover the legal costs of 1,800 euros and Künast's expenses for her lawyer.
The office manager of AfD member of the Bundestag Leif-Erik Holm was also sentenced to 3,000 euros in damages because he further spread Künast's distorted quote in a tweet.
Hate Aid founded by Campact and Fearless Democracy , the 10,000 euros will be used to finance further trials against those attacked. According to Künast's lawyer Severin Riemenschneider, other suspected authors of hate posts in the same context have also been identified and further lawsuits have been filed.
Note : An earlier version of the article stated that “Hate Aid” was an association that Künast co-founded.
However, it is not an association, but a non-profit organization of which Renate Künast is a client.

Conclusion
The judgments clearly show that creators and disseminators of fake quotes and false claims can no longer hide behind the fact that they are only creating “satire”, as has been claimed so often. A distorted statement that damages your reputation has nothing to do with satire.
