The video shows people rioting in an H&M store - but these are not refugees.

We received a few inquiries about a video showing people knocking over racks and rioting in a clothing store.

It's about this status post:

There are some comments that suggest that these are refugees or migrants in Germany:

The fact check:

These are NOT refugees in Germany.

These people rioted in South Africa earlier this year. According to the world, they are protesting because of a promotional photo in which a dark-skinned boy wears a hoodie with the words “Coolest monkey in the jungle.”

As a result, the company's branches in South Africa were vandalized. H&M then closed its branches there at short notice. H&M said no customers or employees were injured during the demonstration. But their safety comes first. The branches were reopened shortly afterwards with increased security precautions.

H&M withdrew the image and apologized. “The company strongly believes that racism and prejudice, whether intentional or unintentional, are unacceptable.”

Result:

The video was taken out of context and shared on Facebook without any background information.

This creates a current and local impression that the scene presented in the video only recently happened in Germany.
