The Schleswig-Holstein consumer advice center has published a warning about another batch of the popular champagne because it is partially filled with the drug MDMA. In addition to the batch number “LAJ7QAB6780004”, all bottles from the batch “LAK5SAA6490005” are now being recalled.

Real danger

The bottles are said to be filled with liquid ecstasy, also known as MDMA. Even touching the liquid, as well as consuming even a small sip, is life-threatening.

The bottles cannot be distinguished from the outside. However, the liquid in the affected bottles have certain characteristics that distinguish them from conventional bottles and their contents. When poured, it has a reddish-brown color that darkens over time and smells like aniseed. In addition, in the case of ecstasy, the liquid does not fizz. ( HERE )

In the comments about the warning on Facebook, the Schleswig-Holstein consumer advice center expressly points out that it is not a joke.

What to do?

Consumers who own a bottle of the affected batches should inform the police. According to consumer advice centers, the bottles can be returned to retailers. Under no circumstances should the liquid be touched or even consumed, as this can cause serious health damage.

Where do the affected bottles come from?

The affected bottles were purchased via a previously unknown website. According to consumer advice centers, the “Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial” variety in the three-liter size is currently affected by the recall Specifically, there are two batches:

  • Batch number: LAJ7QAB6780004
  • Batch number: LAK5SAA6490005

First cases in February

There had already been a tragic incident in February. In a restaurant in Upper Palatinate, guests allegedly drank champagne from a three-liter “Moët & Chandon” bottle. As a result, one guest tragically died and several other guests were seriously injured. Investigations later showed that instead of sparkling wine from Champagne, the bottle contained highly concentrated liquid ecstasy, or MDMA.

Criminal case, not a quality problem

The champagne manufacturer Moët & Chandon itself assumes a case of drug smuggling.

The company announced in February that it was not “a quality problem, but a criminal case.”
