This photo is heartbreaking: a child sleeps in the sand between two graves. However, very few people know where the photo comes from.
This photo was already circulating on social media three years ago. It is therefore not surprising that it found itself on Facebook again in 2018 and caused waves of outrage.
It's about the photo of the supposedly Syrian orphan sleeping at his parents' grave. Today, as before, the same text reads again and again:

Image in plain text:
Surely this is going to be the most thoughtful photo you'll ever see.
A boy sleeping among his parents' garves in Syria !!! And you think you have problems???? Don't care who's right or wrong.. This needs to stop!!This is sure to be the most photo you'll ever see.
A boy sleeping under his parents' graves in Syria!!! And you think you have problems???? No matter who is right or wrong.. This has to stop!!
Colleague Andre writes:
One of the oldest statements about this comes from Twitter (January 2014) and reads “Meanwhile in Syria, a child sleeps between his parents.” (Meanwhile in Syria, a child sleeps between his parents). Always include the information that these are the graves of the child's parents. There are also countless descriptions on Facebook complaining about the child's suffering, we can't describe them all. But is that also true?
Looked closer
Without explaining too much: The picture shows a staged situation. The photographer Abdel Aziz Al-Atibi took this photo, the boy pictured is his nephew. He is not an orphan, the graves are not real either, but are part of a photo project.
On the portal “ Beirut.com ” you can find the following statement:
I'm a photographer and I try to talk about the suffering that is happening in society , it's my hobby and my exaggeration is intended to deliver my idea It's my hobby and my exaggeration is intended to clarify my thoughts on it.)
Furthermore, the image and the scene have nothing to do with the Syrian civil war in their origin. According to his own statement, Abdel Aziz Al-Atibi describes that this photo was intended to address domestic violence, but was soon placed by third parties in the context of the civil war.
It's absurd how people can easily be manipulated without going back to the source and the facts.
It's absurd how easily people can be manipulated without citing a source or facts.
To make it clear that this picture is a staged scene, the photographer uploaded another photo from the photo session with his nephew to his Instagram account.
In summary:
Without wanting to diminish or belittle the suffering in Syria : This picture does not show a scene from a civil war; the photographer from Saudi Arabia never had this statement in mind, but rather wanted to portray a completely different topic. The photographer deliberately dramatized in order to be able to convey the message of his image more clearly.
