In the past few days, the police have again registered a “wave” of such reports.

Various approaches were used to make these demands for money - all of which had actually been known for a long time, and yet unfortunately were "completed" several times again this time.

Fake bank employee: Within a week, for example, fake bank employees managed to “talk” their selected victims on the phone so that in three cases four, five and even six-figure amounts were transferred.

WhatsApp scam: Fraud via the mobile phone messenger WhatsApp has also increased again in the past few days. The perpetrators were successful this way eight times, stealing amounts between 1,500 and 2,500 euros.

Fake love: And the scam of so-called romance scamming, i.e. fake love, is also enjoying great popularity again among fraudsters - apparently because they realize that many people are currently susceptible to vows of love and the like and believe them all too easily . In one case, this even went so far that one of the victims ignored all warnings from the bank and the police. Despite all indications that it was a fraudster, the victim insisted on transferring an amount of 13,000 euros to the alleged “lover”.

We can only point this out again and again and warn you: If strangers want money from you - remain suspicious! Even if the strangers on the phone pretend to be bank employees, police officers, lawyers or the like - please don't believe everything they tell you on the phone!

The same goes for cell phone messages: Even if it says it's your son, daughter or grandson, as soon as he or she wants you to pay a bill for him or her, all of your alarm lights should turn red flash!

And if strangers suddenly send you messages on social media, engage you in a conversation and then perhaps promise you “great love”, you should be extremely careful! As a rule, after a few days or weeks, the story of the “emergency” suddenly emerges for which money is urgently needed - be it medical, family or business. At this moment at the latest, you should pull the emergency brake and not simply hand over your hard-earned or saved money!

We strongly recommend: Check who you are dealing with! Especially if you don't see or speak to the person you're talking to in person, but only have a cell phone message, an email or a strange voice on the phone, you can't know whether what you've said or written is true!

Our tips:

  • If someone claims to be a family member, call him or her personally at the number you know and ask.
  • Ask questions that only the real family member can answer.
  • Don't let yourself be put under pressure - not even by fake tears, frightening news about accidents, arrests or life-threatening illnesses.
  • Stay calm and take the time to question, check and clarify everything.
