Where physics meets review art: a thermometer becomes the star of the debate. There are moments on the internet when you wonder whether you're watching a hidden masterpiece of comedy or an unfortunate moment of confusion. And while the web is full of funny cat videos, memes, and TikTok dances, sometimes there are gold nuggets of humor in the most unexpected places. Like, for example, in the depths of the Amazon reviews.
The review that made waves: Imagine you're browsing Amazon, looking for a good old thermometer and come across this review: “As you can see, it reads 21.6 degrees, not zero. This means, for example, if you want to heat milk to 90 degrees, the thermometer must show 111.6 degrees. Doesn’t meet my expectations of a thermometer.”

In short: This review is not a fake made with Photoshop. It is real and can be found on Amazon ( compare ).
Thermometer vs. Scales: A Battle Royale of Household Appliances?
The brilliant idea behind this review obviously seems to aim for a new revolution in physics. Who needs Newton or Einstein when you can apply the concept of the tare function of a scale to thermometers?
For those of you who just took a nap during physics class at school, the tare function is a term from the world of scales, not thermometers. This function allows you to subtract the weight of the container to weigh only the contents. However, this function does not exist on a temperature meter - and for good reason!
But what if...? Let's keep playing the mind game. If thermometers really worked the way our clever reviewer suggests, cooking shows on TV would probably be a lot more exciting! Imagine Jamie Oliver desperately trying to heat his milk to exactly 111.6 degrees so that it is actually 90 degrees. Or the weather report: “Dear viewers, it feels like 25 degrees, but in reality it is only 3.4 degrees. So put on your winter coats!”
Kudos to creativity!
You could say this review is a quiet masterpiece. A Monet of Amazon Reviews. A Picasso of everyday madness. It's a review that could make history. Proof that in the age of the Internet, ANYTHING is possible.
The big misunderstanding
Let's get back to reality. It's easy to make fun of a review like this, but we don't want to laugh about it at this point, we also want to fulfill a certain self-imposed educational mission. A thermometer measures temperatures. Point. It starts at 0 degrees (or wherever the temperature is) and increases or decreases depending on the ambient temperature.
The review apparently mixed up how scales and thermometers work. An honest mistake? Perhaps. An amusing mistake? Definitely!
A thermometer, a hero, a review
In the vastness of Amazon, where thousands of reviews are submitted every day, this little thermometer managed to steal the spotlight for a moment. It's proof of how humorous, bizarre and sometimes a little crazy the internet can be. And while we hope that in the future, this fact check will clear up the difference between a scale and a thermometer and we'll just thank you for that pleasant laugh. It definitely brightened our day!
