There are currently an increasing number of reports from those affected who are being offered a dubious application service for the energy price brakes at their front door. The descriptions show that people ring the doorbell and pretend to be energy consultants.
Warning about dubious door-to-door scams when it comes to energy price brakes
The profiteers use the element of surprise and offer the unsuspecting consumers to fill out an application together with them to receive the energy price cap.
Those affected are involved in long conversations, unsettled or put under pressure. Because the rip-offs are either well-informed, follow certain patterns, are well-trained, or because chance simply has it, some profiteers always manage to get important data such as name, address, current supplier and meter number. “With such information, for example, a change of energy provider can be successfully initiated,” says Julia Tuncel from the energy advisory service at the Saxony Consumer Center.
The Saxony consumer advice center expressly warns against this scam. No application needs to be submitted for price caps on electricity and gas. Consumers do not have to do anything to benefit from the price caps as they are automatically relieved. Energy suppliers have been sending their customers information about the exact relief for a few weeks now .
What should you do if you get ripped off on the phone or at the front door?
The easiest way to protect yourself from such additional worries is to consistently end unwanted sales conversations. Under no circumstances should personal information or even the meter number be given out at the front door or on the telephone. This applies even more if the dubious provider has already obtained information themselves.
With years of experience and good contacts, the Saxony Consumer Center helps affected consumers with legal advice on terminations or attempts to change.
