The Ministry of Finance warns of a new scam!
Scammers try to get money from citizens using fake phone calls in the name of the Ministry of Finance. The Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) expressly warns against telephone calls that use English recordings to ask customers to pay their debts to the tax office. Callers' phone numbers are misused by a SPAM bot from abroad using caller ID spoofing. These calls are not made by the individual in question personally or by the Treasury Department.
Information from the BMF generally takes the form of notifications and is delivered by post or to the FinanzOnline Databox. The BMF never asks citizens to make payments via telephone calls .

Therefore, the following applies to the tax office:
Under no circumstances should you follow the instructions on the tape or provide any personal, account or credit card information.
The BMF works closely with the responsible security authorities here, because the security of citizens' data is the top priority.
