Our story begins with a video showing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a robot. But what is really behind it? It began with a video showing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky greeting a metal man - a robot - in Kiev. The video sparked a flurry of comments and discussions. In the flood of digital reactions emerged a sea of admiration, concern and mistrust.
The emergence of the robot myth
The video was shared on Facebook under the lurid headline “Newly leaked footage of a robot sent to Ukraine from the UK.” The commenters who believed the video was real expressed a wide range of emotions. While some admired the U.S. generosity, others warned of the potential dangers of such technology.

The origin
The TikTok account @animatronic3D was the source of the video. This account is known for editing videos that often feature human-like robots. In his biography he claims to want to show the world how artificial intelligence and robots will change our world.

Fact check
However, the editing of the video was so skillful that many users believed it to be real. Our fact check revealed that the video was indeed edited.
The real story behind the video
The real story behind the video is less spectacular, but no less significant. The original footage comes from an April 2022 Sky News report that showed a meeting between Zelensky and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. So instead of the robot guest, it was actually Johnson who greeted Zelensky.
A meeting of the powerful
On April 9, 2022, Boris Johnson visited the Ukrainian President in Kiev and discussed additional financial and military support for Ukraine. An important political encounter, which, however, was transformed into a fantasy scenario by the subsequent editing of the video.

Conclusion: The importance of fact checking
After careful investigation and fact checking, we conclude that the video is false. It doesn't show a robot sent to Ukraine from Britain, but rather a manipulation that turns a real political meeting into a futuristic encounter.
In the digital era we live in, it is more important than ever to be vigilant and carefully review information. Stories like these are a reminder that not everything we see online is the truth. We need to sharpen our critical thinking skills and not be blinded by dazzling or spectacular displays.
The truth may sometimes be less spectacular than a well-told story or a cleverly edited video. But it is what gives us direction and helps us make informed decisions. At a time when misinformation and manipulated content are ubiquitous, fact-checking remains our most important tool in the fight against the spread of falsehoods.
