Wow, so many friend requests lately. So many good-looking, well-off, lonely widowers with children who are looking for my friendship - I must be a lucky guy!
Why does this hotshot guy want to be friends with me?
I mean, I'm over 50, gray-haired, short, fat and, according to my profile, married.
So what do these strangers want from me?
For example, there is Adam, widowed, loves fancy cars and his two cute boys and comes from London! I love England!

Or how about Damian? Also from London, because you don't need any more information if you want to make friends with someone...

Or Warren from Milan? Sporty, plays table tennis – nice! Oh, spoiled for choice!

rude awakening
But one click is enough – for what?
Of course, to expose these people as scammers.
If I click on Warren's profile picture, it immediately becomes clear what this is really about:

Damian is also too good to be true. Because this account uses a stolen profile picture .
If you use the reverse search on Google , you will quickly find what you are looking for. So Damian falls just as flat for me as a friend!
The loot scheme
But hey, guys! I work at Mimikama, my memory works great and that's why I don't fall for such "flattering" requests! Even if I seem to be the (almost) perfect victim and fit into the pattern of prey.
These friend requests clearly demonstrate that romance scams remain a pervasive problem.
The main target group of such fraudsters is subject to a very specific prey pattern:
- Female
- Fairly intelligent (must have at least a good command of English)
- Single
- Middle-aged (very young women do not yet have financial resources)
So: To all the Adams, Damians, Warrens, Richards and whatever else you call yourself out there - I'm not interested in friendships with total strangers! Profile blocked, reported to Facebook as a fake profile, request deleted!
Because these fraudsters want nothing other than my and your money .
At first just a little bit and then more and more. There are enough women who have lost their entire fortune because they didn't take off their rose-colored glasses!
How can I protect myself from such scammers?
Something is too good to be true? Then it is often not true.
Subscribe to Mimikama , keep your eyes open and your profile closed if possible, then romance scammers and other fraudsters have no chance with you.
I recommend the security booster for your Facebook profile from Mimikama, which you can find here . Give yourself a few minutes to ensure your safety, it's worth it!
In general, you shouldn't accept friend requests from people you don't even know. If something seems strange to you, then educate yourself. There are even forums about romance scammers, with pictures that people like to use!
And if you have already become a victim of such a fraudster, please contact the police and get help!
