Under the guise of “art performances”, Russian cinemas continue to show popular blockbusters from the West and resort to illegal torrents, as “Torrentfreak” reports. Leading Hollywood film studios such as Disney, Warner and Sony had withdrawn from the country in response to Russia's war of annihilation against Ukraine since the end of February.
Own stripes uninteresting
The resort to illegal downloads of films such as “The Batman” (Warner) or “Don't Look Up” (Netflix) in Russia does not come as a surprise to observers. Finally, the Association of Cinema Owners in Russia had forecast sales losses of around 80 percent as a result of the withdrawal of international production companies. In-house productions are not competitive in terms of both quantity and quality. So they asked for government help.
What is now being promoted by some Russian organizers as an artistic commentary on the withdrawal of the major studios is, for copyright experts, simply the illegal showing of protected content. According to the report, tickets cost around 500 rubles (just under seven euros). The illegal downloads are said to have been dubbed in Russian so that they could be shown to a mass audience.
