Once again, unknown people are posing as a well-known company and luring consumers into a trap! In this current case, they are pretending to be “Ryanair”!
On June 3, 2018, the fake Facebook page “Ryanair Deutschland” published a competition in which you could apparently win a trip to the Maldives. Apparently this competition runs until June 6th, 2018. To “win”, the user simply has to quickly “share and like”, “comment” and “become a fan of the page”. These are the usual 3 steps that a user has to do in any fake competition.
The reason for this is quite simple!
With these three interactions, the status post has an enormous reach on Facebook. Once the creator has received enough interaction, they add a fourth step. To do this, he “EDITS” the existing status post again and adds the following line: Send us a message with “Participated”.
You can see that very clearly in this screenshot:
Why do you as a participant have to send a message all at once?
Quite simply, this method lures the user to an external website that contains a competition form. AND THAT'S THE POINT! It's about the user's data, because it's worth money!
So if you send a message with “Participated”, then in the same second, because there is a bot behind it, you will receive a response and it will be:
Hi Tom,
In order for your participation to be valid, please take part in our competition via our website!
-> http://bit.ly/RyanAirReise Please don't forget to confirm your email to confirm your participation. We wish good luck !
If you now click on the link, you will land on this page with a competition form:
And from here it really starts, because it's about DATA and personal data!
What most people don't realize is that this is about YOUR DATA. In other words, their data is fed into a database and the participants can then receive a number of ADVERTISING EMAILS, ADVERTISING CALLS and much more. "be happy"
The user can find this information, also in modified form, in SMALL PRINT under the competition form:
Yes, I agree that the companies listed on the sponsor list will inform me by post, telephone, email or SMS about offers from their respective business area. I can revoke my consent at any time with effect for the future. More information here.
But not only that!
In most cases, such user data is also sold. Such a data set can then earn the seller a few euros.
… data collector and lead generator
We have often found EXACTLY THIS method, just with other vouchers as a decoy. In addition to Proleagion, other lead generators also collect data using the same method - much to the annoyance of the companies used as decoys. So far we have mostly noticed Proleagion, adpublisher, red lemon media GmbH, Lead Spot Media, 7sections GmbH and Planet49.
So these are data collectors!
The user is being promised and led to believe something that is not true at all. The status post gives the user the impression that he could win plane tickets, but that is not the case.
KEEP AWAY FROM COMPETITIONS like this! Nobody has anything to give away.
