Crizpy: Let's put social media where it's most fun.
Press, models and supermodel Cara Delevingne. Samsung had a spectacular marketing idea: the first selfie sent from space using a specially designed satellite.
But what appeared glamorous at the press event in London ended up as a pile of scrap in a garden in Michigan, USA. Nancy Welke, a horse breeder, heard a loud clanking noise Saturday morning. It turned out that some kind of satellite had crashed in their pasture. The same advertising satellite on which Cara Delevingne's selfie in space was previously photographed.
Samsung said in a statement that the satellite, which ascended to the uppermost layers of the Earth's atmosphere on a special balloon, landed in a controlled manner in the sparsely populated region of Michigan. Nobody was harmed. However, the balloon of the satellite dummy got caught in a power line during its rough landing.
Samsung smartphone users all over the world should have their own space selfie created. To do this, you had to upload your photo to Samsung's “Mission Control” website. The images were then randomly selected to be displayed on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G sent into the stratosphere and photographed with a view of Earth in the background. The photos were then sent back to Earth and could be shared by users on social media. The smartphone should “float” in the stratosphere for 200 hours and be available for space selfies. The project was planned until the end of October, but ended earlier after just a few days.
