On Tuesday (April 25th), a 45-year-old woman from Neuss wanted to cancel a flight and used a search engine to research the company's hotline. She found what she was looking for on a website. Afterwards, she had to painfully discover that this was not the real number.

The person on the phone pretended to be an airline employee and asked her to install remote maintenance software on her smartphone. He also asked for personal data that was necessary to process the cancellation.

When the 45-year-old had legitimate doubts, she contacted the company on a different number and it turned out that it was a scam. She immediately had her credit cards blocked and filed a complaint.

The police warn:

Phishing is not only attempted via email, but also over the phone. Alleged employees of a call center fake certain facts in order to obtain confidential data.

It is not always easy to recognize that this is phishing. The websites on which the incorrect hotline numbers are listed are often very similar to the original website.

Check carefully whether it is the real company website!
