There are currently increasing reports of fraudulent emails that allegedly come from Netflix.
There was a problem with payment processing so that Netflix was unable to debit the usage fee and therefore temporarily blocked the account. To continue using Netflix, you will be asked to update your account information. However, it is phishing !
Criminals use a variety of tricks to try to get your access and bank details. Currently they are impersonating Netflix and claiming your Netflix account is blocked.
In order to continue using Netflix, your payment details will reportedly need to be updated. However, don't click on the link, you will go to a fake Netflix page.
Criminals make up an excuse
Phishing always works the same way. Criminals pose as well-known companies such as Netflix , Raiffeisen , Amazon or BAWAG PSK and send emails to numerous email addresses under a specific pretext.
They make up some reason why you should log into your account. In the Netflix phishing email, criminals claim that your account is blocked and that you just need to update your payment information to continue streaming.
You will be taken to a fake login page
If you follow the instructions and click on the link, you will be redirected to a fake Netflix login page. This mock-up login page looks like the real Netflix login page.

If you enter your access data there, it will go directly to the criminals. In a further step, your payment details will be requested. These are then misused for purchases on the Internet.
Detect phishing sites
Phishing sites can be recognized primarily by their web address. The fake Netflix login page runs under the domain “supportaccountupdate.bill.zfgfwuirg. net”.
Recognize phishing emails
You can recognize phishing emails by numerous characteristics:
- Email address: Phishing emails are sent from an implausible address that does not correspond to the official company email address. So take a close look at the sender's email address. You can see these when you click on details or the sender's name.
- Spelling: Phishing emails are usually full of spelling and grammatical errors.
- Impersonal salutation: You will not be addressed by name as this email is sent en masse.
- Content: Question the reason for the letter and first check whether your account has actually been blocked.
- Request to reveal personal data: Banks, streaming platforms, online shops and the like do not ask you to reveal your data or passwords!
What you can do once you have entered your details
Change your password immediately. If this is no longer possible, contact Netflix via customer service and explain your problem.
If you have also provided payment details, contact your bank and discuss how to proceed.
