Every day, around 60 million people in Germany alone use WhatsApp to send text and voice messages, make video calls or communicate other concerns. As expected, the news that WhatsApp will be shut down in the next 50 days and will no longer be usable on devices that already have the application installed triggers a lot of reactions. Even if such reports are actually nothing new anymore.

safety first

The reason why the Messenger app will no longer be able to run on many devices in the future is quite plausible. The operating systems that run on older devices are already so outdated that they represent a major security risk and are therefore easier to attack. Even if the measure is drastic, from the developers' point of view it is necessary because the security and privacy of users simply comes first. In addition, new functions are often not compatible with all operating systems.

Who the shutdown affects

After Android 4.1 users were affected last year, owners of iPhone cell phones with iOS 10 or iOS 11 . The messenger had already warned about this in May. Now the application will finally be deactivated on the affected devices on October 24th.
