60 percent of the slimming products that you can buy on the Internet are adulterated!

As our cooperation partner at checked4you reports, more and more people no longer just trust good nutrition and their training plan, but are also using additional tablets or powders. But there is often a lot more to it than you realize. And nothing good.

Nobody cares about their own appearance. The boys in particular often work hard in the fitness center, but for some people it may not be fast enough to build muscle. Others - often girls here - simply want to lose weight and think it's easier and quicker with a few tablets. So some people look on the Internet and look for “little helpers” that can accelerate the desired effect.

You'll find what you're looking for there faster than you can pronounce the word "fast online shipping". You can buy tons of remedies that are supposed to help shape your body in countless online shops. However, the ingredients of such capsules, chewing gum, tea bags and tablets are not subject to any control - especially if the products come from abroad.

In 2011, in a study by the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Center, 20 percent of sports products and over 60 percent of slimming products ordered via online shops were adulterated . We found banned doping substances such as methylhexanamine and dangerous drugs. Among them: cancer-causing laxatives and an appetite suppressant, which was taken off the market across Europe in 2010 due to massive side effects that resulted in deaths.

Little benefit, lots of risk

Of course, it is usually not stated on the package that there is something like that in there. On the contrary: Some manufacturers advertise with a “natural” image and sometimes even make their products look like the purest herbal tea.

However, the consequences of taking such seemingly harmless products could be fatal for your health:

Steroid acne, liver and kidney damage, reduced body growth, cardiovascular collapse... And the hard part about all of this is: For many of the active ingredients in these dietary supplements, the positive effect that you actually want has not really been proven. So it could well be that in the end you can ONLY observe the negative consequences.

By the way, the possible consequences of “anabolic steroids” are even more severe – no one can care about that, no matter how vain they may be. What could it be – psychological changes (e.g. depression), infertility, or rather shrinkage of the testicles, breast growth in men or masculinization in women?

Our opinion is clear: It's better to leave things like that alone - a healthy and varied diet combined with training and/or exercise are completely sufficient to get yourself in good shape.

However, if you can't be dissuaded despite really good arguments, you should at least take the following tips to heart:

  • It is best to only order dietary supplements from shop sites that bear the Initiative D21 seal . These providers are known to food monitoring and are monitored in a risk-oriented manner
  • Marketplaces like eBay or Amazon generally do not offer any security because they are not responsible for the offers of others.
  • Search specifically for the provider's company details - if they are missing, it is better not to place an order. Make sure that commercial providers have their headquarters in Germany. Mail order pharmacies approved by German authorities offer a certain level of security .
  • Competitive athletes in particular should base their product selection on the Cologne list . The products are not better or more recommended than others, but they are at least checked for doping substances.
  • Anyone who is chronically ill should talk to their doctor first anyway - many preparations can weaken or strengthen the effects of other medications.
