When firefighters and police are fired at with fireworks during operations on New Year's Eve, something is very wrong.

You can now count the seconds after midnight when the first fire alarm sounds and the emergency vehicles have to be called out because attics or barns are on fire due to intentionally or unintentionally misdirected fireworks.

This also happened in the Westhagen district of Wolfsburg, where a fire alarm was triggered in a school complex.

“Explosive” New Year’s Eve celebrations

During that same operation, the police and fire brigade were heavily attacked with fireworks and flares by New Year's Eve revelers from the nearby market square in front of the shopping center.

After emergency officers from Braunschweig and Gifhorn were brought together to provide support at the scene, 26 emergency services determined the identities of a total of 31 people.

Placement and no more funny

The celebrants' New Year's Eve fireworks display was finally brought to an end after three hours. When four participants between the ages of 18 and 23 resist police measures and are recognized by emergency services as suspected suspects, officers restrain the quartet with handcuffs. Three blank guns with attachments for firing fireworks ammunition are seized.

More vandalism

Only later did it emerge that school windows had been vandalized and firecrackers had been set off in the affected classroom. There was probably damage of over 10,000 euros. The police are investigating a particularly serious case of deliberate arson and breach of the peace.

According to initial findings, several window panes at the Wolfsburg high school and the Albert Schweitzer high school were destroyed. Afterwards, several lit New Year's Eve rockets and firecrackers were thrown into a classroom. The result was fire damage to the school furniture, walls and floor. At this point, at least 50 revelers are in the nearby market square for the New Year's Eve fireworks.

Probably illegal firecrackers

When police and fire departments located the exact location of the fire due to the fire alarm in the school complex, they were pelted with firecrackers that burned off in an extremely loud, lightning-like detonation, which officials later assumed were illegal fireworks. While the emergency services were in the affected classroom to assess the damage, a small group approached, fired rockets and used fireworks ammunition that can only be fired from blank weapons. These fireworks projectiles hit through the broken windows directly into the classroom between the forces.

Illegal weapons, but fortunately no one was injured

Fortunately, no emergency personnel were injured. According to the Weapons Act, these weapons are weapons that require a permit and are not allowed to be carried on public paths and places.

After the banishment, the group dispersed on the market square. The school's destroyed windows were secured. The investigation is ongoing.
