The claim

There are claims on social media that Scholz also attended a beheading during his visit to Saudi Arabia.

Our conclusion

The disseminated text and the manipulated photo come from an article on the satirical site “Der Postillon”.

Of course, most internet-savvy people know what Postillon is: a very well-known satirical site. And as such, they took up Olaf Scholz's real visit to Saudi Arabia (see HERE ) and wrote in an exaggeratedly satirical manner that he also attended a beheading (see HERE ). However, this is fictional, goodness again!

“Scholz was at a beheading!”

Digital troublemakers are also aware of Postillon's popularity, which is why only a screenshot without the logo is shared, let alone a link to the article!

Scholz during a beheading?
Scholz during a beheading?

Some of the distribution can be assumed to be malicious false claims, as even the text was copied from the postilion - including the pseudo-abbreviation of the dpo news agency, which simply means " D er Po stillon".

The Postillon also published a similar article on February 3, 2016 (see HERE ), except that back then it was Steinmeier who was standing in exactly the same picture - which also shows that the photo was also cleverly faked. And that is why it is believed.

MIMIKAMA
1x Scholz, 1x Steinmeier – same situation, same picture

By the way, the original photo really shows Steinmeier (see HERE ), but the real photo does not have any blood spatters on the wall, and he is not watching a beheading, but rather sees a man sweeping.

Conclusion

Of course, it is difficult to recognize satire when the author's logo has been maliciously removed and no link is shared.
That's why our tip: just google the title of an article! Then you can often see where it comes from (or whether it even exists) in the first result:

Tadaa, it's at the postilion!
Tadaa, it's at the postilion!

Nothing against you, dear colleagues from the Postillon. But maybe you should still put watermarks on your photos. This saves us many inquiries. 😉

Also interesting: Julian Reichelt, editor-in-chief of Bild, shared an article from Postillon on Twitter on May 13th.
This tweet has now brought him special attention. – How the postilion fooled Julian Reichelt
