After a price for the offered smartphone had been negotiated online, the seller and buyer met on Friday afternoon at the agreed meeting point on Louise-Schroeder-Straße. The 26-year-old buyer took the cell phone box in good faith and handed over the money without taking a moment to look at the goods or check them.
The seller left with the cash
Only a short time later, the 26-year-old was shocked to find that the cell phone he was hoping for wasn't in the box. Instead, he only found worthless bits and bobs in the box. The man from Bremerhaven and his companion immediately set out to confront the seller. They caught up with the 20-year-old. But he was not aware of any guilt and a scuffle broke out between those involved. The seller was slightly injured. A witness to the altercation eventually called the police.
The seller is now facing charges of fraud. Further investigations must now show where the smartphone originally for sale is and how the worthless items got into the box. The buyer and his companion must answer for a bodily harm offense.
A tip from your police:
It's Christmas time: Right now, buying and selling in online shops, on social networks or on flea markets and classifieds portals is very popular with many people - after all, you can get a bargain here and there or buy gifts in an uncomplicated way.
But be careful! Fraudsters are also active on these portals with their perfidious scams.
The Bremerhaven police advise: As a buyer and as a seller, always have a healthy level of suspicion - especially if an offer is too good to be true. Also trust your gut feeling.
