“Pretty clever: a story that initially sounded like a TV scandal turns out to be an advertisement for a dubious dietary supplement,” wrote an acquaintance on Twitter .

When I looked closely at what he meant, it was immediately clear to me that THIS was a case for Mimikama. Because the website that claims to be BILD and claims “BILD investigates the truth about rapid weight loss and muscle building!” is anything but serious! This is a commercial fake news site.

Important! BILD has nothing to do with fake news! Logo and name were misused by unknown persons!

The aim of this fake news is to lure Internet users to a website with a scandal report. This website now offers “fabricated content” and is therefore one of the pseudo-editorially designed commercial fake news sites. At first glance you can't tell that this is NOT BILD content:

The structure, presentation, format and logo are based on the original. The text is pseudo-editorial content and is fictitious.

This is how you recognize commercial fake news!

This article also has all the characteristics of commercial fake news. One thing you can always remember about this type of commercial fake news: It is...

  • a pseudo-editorially created content that has no truth whatsoever.
  • a representation in the form of a news/news website, which ultimately is not.
  • a content that appeals to a desire/fear/sensationalism (in this case, just sensationalism).
  • an author who doesn't care about the content. It's about displaying advertising or effectively incorporating advertising links.

Ok… is there advertising here?

Yes. This article is also about presenting a product as effectively as possible. A weight loss preparation is heavily advertised in the text, but also below the text. They are not afraid to spread made-up customer reviews under the article.

If you follow these product links, you will end up in an affiliate sales program. So this is a marketing method - an internet-based commission system that runs through partners.

A website operator, like the 0815 blogger in our case, receives a commission - i.e. money - when an Internet user goes to the seller's shop via this affiliate link and completes a transaction.

This means that the seller's partner website also only receives money if a product has actually been purchased via the link provided. Therefore, the author of such fake news, who is also likely to be the respective sales partner of the affiliate provider, has a great interest in ensuring that his fake story sounds as credible as possible in advance, but at the same time also has a high potential for virality.
