Sexual assault in Rath – police search for the perpetrator with photos
Sunday, June 24, 2018, 5:45 a.m
A previously unknown perpetrator tried to rape a young woman in a hallway in Düsseldorf-Rath on Sunday morning. Using photos from the Rheinbahn cameras, investigators from the Sexual Offenses Commission are now searching for the accused.
The woman (in her mid-20s) left the U 72 at the Oberrath/Dachsbergweg stop at around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday morning and then continued along Tevernstrasse to her home address. She noticed that a man she didn't know had also left the train and was obviously following her. When she reached her home and unlocked the front door, the stranger pushed her into the hallway and brought the woman to the ground. The young woman fought back violently against the perpetrator's attacks and screamed loudly for help. The man then let go of her and fled in an unknown direction.
The shocked and slightly injured victim was interviewed at the beginning of the week. The specialists are investigating an attempted rape.
Investigations have shown that the perpetrator got on the U 72 in the old town on Heinrich-Heine-Allee. The young woman also used the train from here.
