It doesn't always have to be a professional hack, sometimes baser instincts are enough.
Hamas tricked Israeli soldiers using fake profiles of pretty girls
The soldiers were contacted by the alleged girls and were told to install a special app for further contact.
However, Hamas agents were behind the profiles, and the apps contained malware that spied on the soldiers.
You know them, we have reported on them many times: Sexy fake profiles on Facebook, which have only one purpose: to lure primarily male users into a cost trap. But even though Facebook now deletes these profiles quite quickly, users still fall for them.
However, not everyone knows this, and if you are a lonely soldier, all reason can be thrown overboard when a pretty girl suddenly contacts you on Facebook, Instagram or Telegram and expresses interest. And that's what happened to some Israeli soldiers...

How did Hamas do it?
According to IDF (Israeli Defense Force) spokeswoman Hild Silberman, Hamas agents posed as Israeli immigrants who were looking for contact but could not yet speak Hebrew very well.
In total, the IDF was able to identify six contacts with the names Sarah Orlova, Maria Jacobova, Eden Ben Ezra, Noa Danon, Yael Azoulay and Rebecca Aboxis. Photos of young girls were used as profile pictures, which were also edited (the photos, not the girls ) so they can't be found in a reverse Google search.

The IDF also released six profile photos of the girls that were used (also shown in the cover photo of this article).
The IDF investigators also report that the alleged young women asked the soldiers to install one of three chat apps in order to “not be monitored,” where they would then send additional photos. The apps were called Catch & See, Grixy and Zatu.
Surprise: there was malware in the apps!
The apps were not available in any app store, but had to be downloaded by the soldiers via a special link.
Apparently the soldiers still didn't suspect anything when the apps asked for extensive access rights. But the disappointment was great: The apps then reported that they were not compatible with the operating system and apparently deleted themselves.

However, the apps continued to operate in the background: only the icon was deleted, but with the app Hamas had complete access to contacts, text messages, phone calls and could even make video, photo and sound recordings.

Conclusion
Not only private users and company employees, but also military personnel are advised to be well informed about the methods of cyber criminals... because as you can see, you don't need a major hacking operation to get sensitive data... sometimes just the picture is enough of a pretty girl.
