SHOPPING APPS ARE WELL RECEIVED BY CUSTOMERS

The Lidl Plus app was downloaded over ten million times and the Rewe app over six million times. The Edeka app has three million users and the Kaufland app has also been downloaded several million times.

But how good are the shopping apps and how much can you really save? The two students Gesa and Jana are supposed to find out for us and try out the most common apps for three weeks.

SHOPPING APPS HAVE A LOT IN COMMON

Gesa wants to know whether she can save with the apps from Kaufland and Edeka. Jana tests Lidl Plus and the Rewe app. To do this, you have to download and install the apps. All apps have a similar structure and work with coupons that you can use to save money when buying certain products.

Everyone also offers recipe ideas. You can go straight to the supermarket with the app on your phone and have already put together your shopping list. Another similarity: All apps work with loyalty points. This means that if you shop a lot, you collect a lot of points and therefore get certain products cheaper.

HOW SUPERMARKETS BENEFIT FROM DISCOUNTS

Ralph Tunder, marketing professor at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, says the reason is that supermarket operators benefit greatly from this because they can make targeted offers to their customers. This means you can also analyze their consumer behavior, for example how strongly they react to certain actions.

DISCOUNT OFFERS AND COUPONS

In a classic supermarket, the range includes between 20,000 and 30,000 items. On average, a household buys a hundred different products throughout the year. To encourage customers to buy more items, retailers offer discount offers and coupons.

Conclusion: If you don't let yourself be tempted to buy by offers that you don't actually need and have no problem providing some personal data, you can save a lot with the shopping apps.
