A sharepic is currently being shared on WhatsApp that shows the following excerpt from an article in the Ärzteblatt from 2002: “The goal must be the transformation of all healthy people into sick people, i.e. into people who, if possible, have a life-long commitment to both chemical-physical and psychological health in need of therapeutic, rehabilitative and preventive manipulation in order to be able to live a “healthy life.” The excerpt is presented as evidence of a conspiracy that intentionally wants to make people sick.
But the excerpt is completely taken out of context
The article entitled “Health System: In the Progress Trap” is not about uncovering a large-scale conspiracy in which people are deliberately made sick, but rather about a philosophical criticism of the health system at the time.
It's not a conspiracy, it's progress that is making more and more people sick
The argument of the article is not that we are all victims of a big sickness campaign in which we actually get sick, but rather that we feel like we are sick because health is a big hot topic and like the author describes being made into a purpose in life instead of just being part of life.
The argument that people are made sick does not work because there is a conspiracy that goes back to a group. No, the author is much more interested in the fact that with the prevailing spirit of progress that exists in the health system, there are more and more opportunities not only to be healthy, but also to be sick.
According to the author, when a society makes health an achievement in competition with other societies, the following happens: “The health society drives the vitality out of society through health.” This means that a society defines itself by how “healthy” it is, whereby what is really healthy or sick would actually have to be discussed.
According to the author, this also means that a society discovers health deficiencies more quickly: “The area of the sick becomes more and more inflated. Just a few examples: dealing with sleep disorders, eating disorders, anxiety, attention problems in children, but also unwanted childlessness or cosmetic defects.”
If you look at who the article came from, it quickly becomes apparent that it is not a conspiracy theory. The author Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Klaus Dörner is not only a psychiatrist, but also a psychiatric historian and was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Institute for Humanity, Ethics and Science.
It is therefore worthwhile to read the article in its entirety rather than tearing out parts of it incoherently.
