No matter what topic is currently in the news, people always appear who claim that the events were already seen in an old episode of “The Simpsons”. In very rare cases this is even true, albeit to a lesser extent, but this is because the creators always like to take up current topics and present them in an exaggerated way. Bill Oakley, one of the Simpsons writers, explained it to Reuters : "I would say that when people say that The Simpsons predicted something, it's just that we satirized real events from years before, and Because history keeps repeating itself, it looks like we have predicted things.”
And now the claim is circulating that an old episode of The Simpsons even predicted the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
However, the alleged stills from The Simpsons were doctored!

The alleged evidence photos

Here are two tweets in which the sharepic with the three photos was shared, although the versions differ slightly:
In one version of the sharepic, a weapon can also be seen in the first image, which is supposed to say “2022”.

The first image shows a fearful soldier aiming at Vladimir Putin. The soldier has the Ukrainian flag on his upper arm, in the background Homer Simpson is waving the Ukrainian flag. The second picture shows a bomb stuck in the Simpsons' garden, the date on the bomb is said to be May 5th, 2022. The third picture shows a mushroom cloud, in the foreground you can see the city of Springfield, where the Simpsons live.

The true origin of the images

Supposedly the images come from an episode in 1989. So let's take a look at where each image really comes from!

The soldier, Putin and Homer with the Ukraine flag

The image of the soldier comes from season 30, episode 11 from 2019 entitled “ Mad about the Toy ”, German title: “Plastiktrauma”. In the original picture, neither Putin nor Homer can be seen with a Ukrainian flag, nor does the gun say “2022”.

Vladimir Putin in the image is from a short clip posted on The Simpsons' official Facebook page on October 14, 2016 What’s more, Putin’s shirt doesn’t say “CCCP” but rather “Red Sox”.

Homer with the flag is from Season 17, Episode 8 . A clip from it can be seen on YouTube However, he is not waving the Ukrainian flag, but the American flag.

The first picture is a photomontage of three different episodes, which were also manipulated.

The bomb in the garden

An episode in which this bomb is in the Simpsons' garden cannot be found, but this exact bomb can be found The Simpsons: Springfield -Tapped Out- In July 2016, this bomb was a limited-time decoration as part of an event in the game.

The bomb can also be downloaded individually as a graphic (for example HERE ) and then incorporated into all kinds of images.
no date on the bomb.

So the second picture is most likely just a photomontage of the bomb, which appears exactly in a mobile phone game down to the crumb of earth.

The explosion

The picture with the explosion is the only one that hasn't been manipulated: It comes from season 21, episode 20 , the name of the episode is " To Surveil with Love ", German title "Nedtropolis" from 2010 .

be found , among other things, in the description of the episode on Simpsons Wiki

Conclusion

Not only do the images come from completely different episodes of The Simpsons (the first image was even a composite of three different episodes), they were also heavily manipulated.

Over the years, we have often had to point out that the Simpsons did not predict various events. You can find an overview of previous articles HERE .
