If payment is not made by February 18th, the bailiff could face seizure. Watchlist Internet advises: Don't let yourself be put under pressure. It's a scam!

What do the criminals claim?

Many people are currently receiving the following SMS:

[FINANCES] Your outstanding claim number R15B482 has not been paid despite several reminders. On February 18, 2023, the bailiff will seize your household goods as a precautionary measure. You can avoid the garnishment procedure by paying the full amount immediately via your payment link: https://h309-r15b482981.su

Apparently the message comes from the Austrian tax office. But we can reassure you that there are actually criminals behind it who are trying to get your money.

Do not transfer a claim of €1,386.14!

Anyone who follows the link in the SMS will land on a website that looks confusingly similar to that of the Austrian Ministry of Finance.

The page summarizes again that an alleged payment period of 30 days has expired. A seizure procedure can only be stopped if € 1,386.14 is transferred to the specified account. Don't let this threat intimidate you and under no circumstances transfer the requested money!

How do you recognize the fraud?

  • Question the content: Have you recently received a reminder from the tax office? Is it possible that a claim is outstanding? But above all: Would the tax office send such an important message via SMS? We can answer the last question for you: No. You are more likely to receive such notifications by registered letter.
  • Check number: Search the Internet for the mobile number shown. You can often find warning messages this way.
  • Check link: If you are threatened with consequences if you do not click on a link sent, this is a red flag. If the link address has nothing to do with the alleged sender, you can assume that it is fraudulent. The link address https://h309-r15b482981.su does not belong to the Austrian Ministry of Finance!
  • Check account details: You will also find a hint of fraud on the website. You should transfer money to a Lithuanian account. You can tell this because the IBAN begins with LT. Austrian authorities do not require transfers to foreign accounts.

Have you already paid? In this case, you should contact your bank as soon as possible to find out if a chargeback of the amount is possible. However, the chances of success are very low. We also recommend that you file a criminal complaint with the police.
