Just a few days ago we reported in detail about this new scam “ First SMS, then WhatsApp ”. Now our cooperation partners Watchlist-Internet are also warning about this. It's about a text message that was sent by "his child". Please contact us via WhatsApp.

Danger! Anyone who answers here will soon be asked to pay by the supposed child. Ignore the messages and under no circumstances make any transfers.

Have you also received a text message with content similar to the following examples?

“Hi mom, I broke my phone. My sim was also broken, there's not much I can do but can you WhatsApp me 4367764729517"

“Hello mom, my cell phone is broken. This is the new number that you can save. Send me via WhatsApp when you read this SMS doesn't work: ?+4367764891312?

"Hi Papa. My phone is broken. This is my new number."

If yes, ignore this SMS

The messages come from criminals posing as your child to later ask you to make urgent transfers. The money ends up directly in the criminals' pockets and your child knows nothing about it.

How do you recognize the fraud?

Aside from the fact that many of the people receiving the messages don't have children, there are other clues and ways to check for the scam:

  • Call your child on their usual number or write them a message. Your child knows nothing about an alleged new number.
  • The message isn't phrased the way your child would? Experience has shown that the criminals are located far away abroad and use translation programs.
  • If you try to call the new number, no one will ever answer. The only excuses that follow are why it is not possible to make phone calls.
  • Days or weeks later, you will be asked to make payments abroad using the new number. At this point at the latest you must urgently break off contact. You don't write with your child!
  • Ask the other person questions that only your real child could answer.

Have you made transfers?

In this case, contact your bank as soon as possible! Under certain circumstances, the money can still be retrieved if the payment has not yet reached the destination account. If the money can no longer be refunded, we advise you to report the matter to the police .
