The claim

SARS-CoV-2 is actually snake venom in drinking water, and this snake venom may have already been in previous flu vaccinations.

Our conclusion

The claim that there is snake venom in drinking water and vaccinations, which is the actual cause of COVID-19, has no scientific or logical basis.

, an hour-long interview with Dr. appeared on the video platform “Rumble” (archived HERE Bryan Ardis, a retired chiropractor. In addition to various conspiracy myths about COVID-19, he also made a claim that was then enthusiastically taken up by local corona deniers and vaccine opponents: SARS-CoV-2 is actually snake venom in drinking water, and this snake venom may have already been in previous flu vaccinations .
However, this conspiracy myth is very full of holes and scientifically untenable.

The claim

In the first half hour of the interview , Dr. Bryan Ardis , a retired chiropractor and acupuncturist who sells alleged acne remedies online, posits various conspiracy myths, for example that remdesivir, a drug used , has a death rate of 53 percent, but fails to mention that his graphics from an Ebola study from December 2019 and the patients died from Ebola, not from the drug.

In the second half of the video, Ardis then claims that the pandemic is actually a plot by the Catholic Church and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to poison people with snake venom, which is said to be found in drinking water. As “proof”, he carries out, among other things, a COVID-19 rapid test on drinking water, which shows positive (which is not proof, however, we reported in April 2021 ).

But other “evidence” is also listed by Ardis, for example a study from August 2021 (see HERE ), which examined whether an enzyme similar to rattlesnake venom, which was often observed in seriously ill COVID-19 patients, was an important factor in the predicting COVID-19 mortality. But we'll explain what it actually means in a moment.

The new conspiracy theory was enthusiastically received by relevant circles:

A relevant blog (archived HERE ) also supports the conspiracy myth and claims that COVID-19 is an “ attack on humanity of a satanic quality .” The virus and the vaccines were all made from snake venom molecules from the king cobra, and their spread was a planned genocide.

The connection between SARS-CoV-2 and snake venom

The basis of the conspiracy myth, as already mentioned above, is a study with the awkward name “ Secreted phospholipase A2 of group IIA is linked to the pathobiology that leads to COVID-19 mortality ”. In the study, scientists at the University of Arizona found that circulation of the enzyme phospholipase A2 type IIa (sPLA2-IIa) is an important factor in predicting whether a patient will become seriously ill with COVID-19.

This enzyme actually has a high similarity to an enzyme in the venom of the rattlesnake, which is, however, not a new finding: in January 2020 , which is why it was suspected that the original virus came from snakes which, however, to be unlikely .

However, the enzyme also occurs naturally in low concentrations in the human body, where it plays a crucial role in defending against bacterial infections. With COVID-19, however, it seems to multiply unchecked, especially in severe illnesses, causing the immune system to turn against its own body: the enzyme destroys the patient's cell membranes, which ultimately leads to multiple organ failure.

And here lies the opportunity: The enzyme sPLA2-IIA has been researched for decades, as it is particularly common in severe inflammations . Accordingly, healing methods could be developed based on these findings, which is also hope for Long Covid patients if it turns out that the enzyme also plays a role.

The holey connection

Let's summarize:
A certain enzyme, which also occurs naturally in small quantities in the human body, is similar to an enzyme in snake venom. The genome sequence of the enzyme can also be found in the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This enzyme multiplies uncontrollably in severe COVID-19 illnesses.

In the conspiracy myth, a single enzyme that “only” resembles a snake venom enzyme becomes completely snake venom, which is also said to be in the drinking water and perhaps also in the vaccinations. It is more than surprising that the death rate is not much higher - where is the mass death of those vaccinated?

Conclusion

The claim that there is snake venom in drinking water and vaccinations, which is the actual cause of COVID-19, has no scientific or logical basis. The claim is based on a study in which it was found that an enzyme similar to snake venom occurs very frequently in people seriously ill with COVID-19. But to conclude from this that SARS-CoV-2 is actually snake venom, which is also added to drinking water and vaccinations, is pure fantasy.
